Millions of people visit the Palace of Versailles, but not many realize that tucked away just off of the grounds of the Château is Le Potager du Roi – the 17th century Garden created for King Louis XIV – and it truly is a garden fit for a King!
Changing ‘Cuisine Française’ and the dining table forever, this magnificent garden is credited not only for advanced techniques such as creating a microclimate for the production of over 300 varieties of fruits and vegetables which grew despite the season, but also for dramatically changing what was served at the Kings table.
We start our Gastronomie Versailles adventure with a journey through the spectacular ‘Potager’ and its importance to Versailles and the history of Cuisine Française.
Leaving the ‘Potager’, we will continue our journey onwards through the city of Versailles tovisit and taste our way around the local Market de Versailles. We will tour the four Market pavilions, discuss current cuisine trends and topics, and collect items for our French ‘Apero’ (the ‘apero’ in France is a term used for pre-meal nibbles), as well as cheeses to create our own Fromage plate.
Following the Market we will head to our favorite local restaurant where we will enjoy the ‘Apero’ items we have collected and will follow with a four course set menu, including our Fromage plate from the market, served with wine.
The experience will end at around 2pm where you will be provided with a ticket to enjoy a visit to the Château of Versailles during the rest of your afternoon, and a return ticket for your train journey back to Paris.
‘A Savoir’ for this experience:
We meet promptly at 9:00am in front of the Saint Michel fountain (on Boulevard Saint Michel, close to Saint-Michel Metro Station) to take the RER together to the City of Versailles.
The cost of this tour is inclusive of:
· transport to and from the city of Versailles via the RER
· the tour of the Le Potager du Roi
· all purchases made for the group at the market
· the four course set meal at the restaurant
· a one day admission ticket for the Château of Versailles (for you to use after the tour)
You will be provided with a little welcome package including a La Cuisine Paris tote bag with train tickets to and from the city of Versailles, a bottle of water, map of Versailles, and your tickets to enjoy the Château after lunch.
Please note: We will be outside for the majority of the tour and will spend approximately 3 hours of the tour on foot and walking. Please ensure that you wear comfortable and appropriate clothing and shoes, so that you are able to have the most enjoyable experience with us!

Changing ‘Cuisine Française’ and the dining table forever, this magnificent garden is credited not only for advanced techniques such as creating a microclimate for the production of over 300 varieties of fruits and vegetables which grew despite the season, but also for dramatically changing what was served at the Kings table.

Following the Market we will head to our favorite local restaurant where we will enjoy the ‘Apero’ items we have collected and will follow with a four course set menu, including our Fromage plate from the market, served with wine.

With two extremely popular Fromageries in Paris, our favorite Fromager/Affineur has partnered with us to share his knowledge and love of French Cheese.
Leaving his two Fromageries behind for the afternoon, Baptiste will immerse you in to the world of French Fromage from history to tasting.
Join us on a journey from creation to 'dégustation'. Whilst enjoying a tasting selection of 7-10 of the Fromagers favorite cheeses, you will learn :
About the history of cheese
About the production of cheese through to ‘affinage’/maturing
How France protects its Fromage ‘savoir faire’
How to identify the various types and ages of cheese, from appearance and taste
This class is not a Wine and Cheese pairing class….despite our Fromager wanting you to save your palate exclusively to enjoy and explore his favorite Fromage, (the purists at heart will appreciate this!), you will of course have a glass of wine to accompany your tasting.
For those of you that want to delve in to the ‘nitty gritty’ of Fromage, build your Fromage acumen and understand the differences amongst the many French Cheeses available, this is the class for you.
