Master macaron maker Pierre Herme also dabbles in chocolate making, and you can find everything from bars to boxes of assorted chocolates in his boutiques but during the winter months, you can even find his delicious l'Infiniment Chocolat served in his cafes! Made with Brazilian chocolate and hot water, it is a perfectly balanced cozy drink for the colder months
William Artigue has worked with the best of the best in the chocolate realm, from Patrick Roger and Jacques Genin his atelier boutique located in the 10th arrondissement near the Canal Saint Martin balances creativity with innovation. His Christmas collection is adorable, filled with mischievous raccoons and chocolate-covered oranges, but his hot chocolate is a real treat. It is both thick and gourmet without being too overpowering, (a balancing act indeed)! It is made with 65% Peruvian chocolate by Nicolas Berger.
Plaq is a chocolate purist, they are bean-to-bar chocolate enthusiasts with a passion for chocolate without any cocoa butter, lecithin or vanilla. Their hot chocolate is something dreams are made of, a recipe from Pierre Herme himself, the hot chocolate is boiled and infused for at least one night to develop its rich flavor. It can be enjoyed either with water or with milk, and don’t forget to top off with whipped cream for an even more decadent experience.
No hot chocolate in Paris list would be complete without a mention of Angelina’s, by far the most popular place to indulge in hot chocolate. Having been a longstanding French establishment for over 100 years, Maison Angelina has lived through the ages, and a step into their tea room will take you back in time to La Belle Epoque with their art nouveau and art deco designed interiors. This is the place for that rich, indulgent, eat-it-with-a-spoon, hot chocolate. Their hot chocolate is a delicate mix of chocolates from Niger, Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire, meticulously blended to balance bitterness and fruity notes!
Charles Chocolatier is for the true chocolate lovers out there, they make their hot chocolate using 100% pure cacao powder and pure cacao butter from the Ivory Coast, there is very little sugar added to their recipe but sugar sachets are available for those wishing to sweeten it up a little.
Another one that has grown in popularity (but for good reason we promise!) is Carette. They have several locations around the city, but by far our favorite location has to be at Place des Vosges. Their hot chocolate is the perfect balance in terms of consistency, and just the right amount of sweetness. Be sure to get it with whipped cream as you get a whole glass of it to use to your hearts content!
