Wednesday 26 Feb 2025    Les Fêtes en France

Les Fêtes en France - Mars

In this month's edition of les fêtes en France (French food festivals), we have the Foire au Boudin, the festival that celebrates Boudin Noir, or black sausage.

Celebrated every year on the 3rd weekend of March for over 50 years, it is a time when blood sausage has its moment in the spotlight. Hundreds of samples of black pudding from all over France, and Europe compete for the coveted title of Meilleur boudin noir - Best Blood Sausage!

Where is Perche?

Located just one and a half hours from Paris by train, the Perche region covers four departments (Orne, Eure-et-Loir, Loir-et-Cher, Sarthe), and an area with large expanses of hills forests, and rivers. It is often used as a jumping-off point for those looking to explore Normany or the Loire Valley.

Their annual event combines gastronomy and tradition in the heart of the Perche region and is held in Mortagne au Perche, at the Carré du Perche.

In 2024, more than 25,000 people and 150 exhibitors took part in this major event. The 58th edition of the Foire au Boudin, organized by the Mortagne événement association, will be taking place on Friday, March 14 at 2 pm to its exhibition fair.

Thursday the 13th, will be the first day of the traditional international competition for the best black pudding, organized by the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Goûte-Boudin! Saturday and Sunday will feature culinary demonstrations and participatory workshops led by local chefs. Sunday is the last day of the three-day event with a funfair for all!

Why are we celebrating boudin noir in Perche?

In reality, we produce a lot of them, all over France. But the idea was to organize a commercial event around a local product, often referred to as sang-cuit (cooked blood). Those in charge at the time immediately set out to establish a charter with the professionals, enabling them to offer consumers a quality product that met certain criteria, some of which are public, and others guarded in secrecy.

The Paris International Agricultural Show or the Salon International de l'Agriculture is Paris's annual agriculture and trade fair, which takes place at the end of February or beginning of March at the Porte de Versailles in Paris, France. It is one of the world's largest and most important agricultural shows, drawing larger crowds than any other in Paris!

The Parc des Expositions in Paris welcomes the International Agricultural Show. For over 60 years, the show has been a major event. As well as presenting livestock, it is a showcase for regional products and international gastronomy to have their moment in the spotlight. The show brings together some 2,000 exhibitors for 9 days of activities. Visitors can admire livestock in the first pavilion (cattle, calves, pigs, goats, etc.). They also have all the latest trends for gardening in their crop section. It is also the spot to network if you are in the industry and discover the various jobs associated with farming and agriculture!
